When MP3.com was still around, I'd do searches on favorite band names and see who claimed to sound like them.

although I haven't tuned in for awhile, I always find good music I'm not familiar with at Radio Paradise

i spend a lot of time researching music on the internet. usually i will start with a band i like, go its label's website, and start downloading all the samples they have and see what other artists they have signed that i like. my other approach is to go to a couple of online mailorder places that have samples of their catalogs and browse and listen the same way. i probably spend several hours a week just surfing through labels and online stores downloading samples.

Curiously, all of those aren't it, and yet I buy lots of music.

So what are your methods of selection, then?

Mostly I buy classical music. I either already know the piece, and go buy it because I decided I want it, or I browse around the store looking for what catches my eye, or I hear it performed at a concert (or hear that it will be). Things like that. Once in a long while, I'll hear something on the radio and decide I want it.

Actually, they play a lot of interesting new stuff at the diesel.

Launchcast. I don't know if you count that as internet radio...

I get stuff by searching strange terms on Limewire and Kazaa. Like Atomic Kitten. I got I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany from searching for Hoku.
