never buying from sony again
I feared phoning them because of the memory problem. I almost wanted to just buy a new HD to avoid talking with them. But today the laptop gave the "operating system not found" error more often than not. I made the mistake of trying to prevent doign the recovery. I made the mistake of answerin the "what operating system do you run honestly. They told me that if you install any other operating system, even another windows, the warrente is void, but then they sent me off to another person who wants me to blow away everything on the computer and then reproduce the error. It's comeing up "operating system not found on boot" but boots sometimes?! Why can't they see that's a resonable error?

Never buying from sony again.

My Vaio (a 505TX) will give that error when it can't spin up the HD. This can be a bad power connection, or it can be sticky bearings.

I took a quick look at the connection to the HD; it seemed sound. I can't do anythign about the bearing, if that's the problem.

I'm almost relieved this won't be under warrentee in a month.
Fashionable, but unable to tell fact from fictiontesting4l on September 16th, 2004 09:24 am (UTC)
Ugh. Lame. That's so clearly pre-OS anyway. The problem there is their BIOS not finding the boot sector on their drive.

If I lived near you, I would've called for you to bitch at them.

I bitched at them and gave up. We're you around for my fight with them when I first got this laptop and it was failing memory tests once it heated up? The guy tried to tell me that one bit of memoery is sucha small amount that it won't hurt anything and that sony computers aren't designed for heavy tasks like compiling.

They asked me a couple questiosn from their script. I think they might have rmaed if I had said it was making noises, but it wasn't. They have really badly educated people staffing the phones, and I think, given the accents I got on both men, they are outsourcing to india now.
